X-ray activity in T-Tauri stellar magnetospheres
نویسنده
چکیده
X-ray flares belong to magnetic activity phenomena that are characteristic for T-Tauri stars. The relatively strong magnetic fields of T-Tauri magnetospheres can be regarded as the primary energy source for the flares. The energy can be converted to particle acceleration and plasma heating by reconnection events in twisted flux tubes that connect the central object and the circumstellar disk. Considering the whole range of the dynamic plasma parameters involved, i.e. the partially ionized dusty plasma regime, the partially ionized dust-free one and eventually, the totally ionized one, it becomes obvious that the localized dissipation of free magnetic energy is efficient and fast enough to overcome the radiative cooling. Model results that take into account ionization as well as dust evaporation/sublimation and the temporal varying resistivity indicate that in course of the dynamics of the resistive tearing instability the plasma in magnetospheric flux tubes can be heated up to X-ray temperatures.

Mass-Loss and Magnetospheres: X-rays from Hot Stars and Young Stellar Objects
High-resolution X-ray spectra of high-mass stars and lowmass T-Tauri stars obtained during the first year of the Chandra mission are providing important clues about the mechanisms which produce Xrays on very young stars. For ζ Pup (O4 If) and ζ Ori (O9.5 I), the broad, blue-shifted line profiles, line ratios, and derived temperature distribution suggest that the X-rays are produced throughout t...
متن کاملMagnetic activity in young stellar objects caused by tearing instabilities
Magnetic activity phenomena are characteristic for T-Tauri stars as well as protostellar class I objects. A model for the flare-like emissivity based on a macroscopic plasma instability, the resistive tearing mode, is proposed. The dispersion relation for the unstable modes for the appropriate partially ionized dusty plasma regime is presented and solved numerically. The results indicate that t...
متن کاملRotationally Modulated X-ray Emission from T Tauri Stars
We have modelled the rotational modulation of X-ray emission from T Tauri stars assuming that they have isothermal, magnetically confined coronae. By extrapolating surface magnetograms we find that T Tauri coronae are compact and clumpy, such that rotational modulation arises from X-ray emitting regions being eclipsed as the star rotates. Emitting regions are close to the stellar surface and in...
متن کاملFurther X-ray detections of Herbig stars
Context. The interpretation of X-ray detections from Herbig Ae/Be stars is disputed as it is not clear if these intermediate-mass pre-main sequence stars are able to drive a dynamo and ensuing phenomena of magnetic activity. Alternative X-ray production mechanisms, related to stellar winds, star-disk magnetospheres, or unresolved late-type T Tauri star companions have been proposed. Aims. The c...
متن کاملThe X-ray activity–rotation relation of T Tauri stars in Taurus-Auriga
Context. The Taurus-Auriga star-forming complex hosts the only population of T Tauri stars in which an anticorrelation of X-ray activity and rotation period has been observed. Aims. We aim to explain the origin of the X-ray activity–rotation relation in Taurus-Auriga. We also aim to put the X-ray activity of these stars into the context of the activity of late-type main-sequence stars and T Tau...
